There’s just no more rockin’ way to spend a Friday night…

…then to get together with your husband to administer 150 ml of fluid to your cranky old cat with an I.V.!
And I have the lucky duty of sticking the needle in the poor little guy. Me, who hates needles so viciously.
The weirdest part is that since your administering this large amount of liquid (comparative to a cat’s body) under the skin in a fairly quick manner, he gets this temporary pouch of liquid off to one side of his body until it absorbs. Ranger tends to dress left, if you wanna know. I guess that’s really slosh left.
Best part is, we get to do this everyday this week! Then every other day for the next three weeks after that. Good times, I tell ya.

Ah, the joys of loading your cat with subcutaneous fluids. I did that for months for Moss. The terrible thing is when you’ve stuck the needle too far & it comes out the other side. Then you squirt saline around & have to find another area to load up. It’s also fun when they leak for a while after you pull the needle out. Insulin shots are much easier. It takes so much less time and the cat doesn’t get fidgety. Still, I was able to see how much better that made hime feel. And after doing it for 6 months I came to realize that a shot is a much easier way to get health-making drugs into a cat than pills.
Thankfully haven’t had the needle stick through yet. (yoiks)
Yeah, it’s the waiting for the 150ml of fluid to seep in that gets to poor Ranger in an uproar. But we think he’s doing a lot better for it. His coat is much nicer and he’s all in all much livelier and healthier. Our biggest gage of this is his new ability to get to places to sulk in–much higher and trickier than before!
