So close

July 22nd, 2008

Alright, so, just one page of Dicebox this week as opposed to the two I was hoping to do in order to compensate for last week. And honestly, I’m glad of even that one, all things considered.(permalink)

As you’ve probably noticed, I don’t tend to post in this journal when I fail to make an update– I figure everyone has enough Internet noise as it is. Though I am willing to do so if folks find it helpful or even courteous.

At the risk of jinxing myself, next week should see the end of Part 8: Birds of a Feather, which has gone on about two months longer than intended, thanks to a certain fetus.

Homestretch

July 9th, 2008

Page 29 of “Birds of a Feather” marks the beginning of the last Chapter of Part 8 of Book 1 of Dicebox. (permalink)

Yes, it used to be Chapters and Scenes, but I reasoned my way to parts and Chapters a while ago. Eventually I’ll update everything to reflect that. In all my spare time. Wherever that went.

Trials and tribulations

July 2nd, 2008

That goes for some future plans for Rhys hinted at in this page as well as my own. (permalink)

Mine have to do with my pregnancy, natch. My Body is a treacherous and willful beast these days that seeks to thwart me as often as possible. In regards to my producing Dicebox, the latest point of contention is that we’ve apparently developed a daily sitting limit–and most of it is taken by the day job during the work week.

I argued with my Body last night around 9pm, when I had maybe a half an hour left of work on this latest page and it insisted on calling in quits:

Me: Oh, come ON! Just til 10pm, we can do until 10! That’s nothing!

Body: Nope.

Me: Don’t be such a baby.*

Body: Feel that ache in the back? In your legs, your throbbing feet and head? It’s not getting any better unless you lay down, NOW.

Me: “whine”

Body: That’s what you get for having sex with Kip…

Me: But we LIKE having sex with Kip!

Body: Yeah, well, what has he done for us lately?**

And so it went. As usual, Body bullied me to bed. And proceded to oversleep so I had to bang out the last little bit of this simple page in a frantic pace before hurtling to the day job.

(Stupid Body. Just wait until November and I don’t need to worry about the effects on Taran. Boy, are you in trouble then. Yes, indeed.)

* Sorry, Taran, no slight intended
** My Body’s an ingrate, Kip, we both know this.

Yes, you can have update

Here’s most of page 23 of Dicebox Part 8 : Birds of a Feather. (permalink)

Life continues to be very hectic and bumpy for me in both good and not so good ways. As I mentioned on the Dicebox home page, I will update weekly (gods willing) though I might miss Wednesday from time to time. If there was a better day for an update, I’d pick it, but there’s not.

Now, part of the solution folks suggest for me to grab a little more time for myself is to have Beezel impersonate me at the day job. (Thurber is usually suggested to take Kip’s place.) Well, that wacky Dylan Meconis actually did a mock-up of what that might look like in order to convince me:

A cunning disguise

It did make me laugh right when I needed it.

I have been doing things…

April 30th, 2008

Some of the things I’ve been doing and not mentioning here are Dicebox updates. Though I’ve actually had help in that department: here is Billy Mudron’s The Illustrated Dicebox. And my updates, including today’s, can be found here. (Note: all of the above is NSFW)

But what’s been keeping me really busy these past few weeks (besides the day job) is my work as part of the Stumptown Comics Fest organizing committee.

As you all probably know, Stumptown was this past weekend and it went really swell. I’ve added my photos to the Stumptown Comics Festival 2008 Pool but have no real report to make. Instead, I direct you to the observations of others: Dylan’s, Ivy’s, Bill’s, Sara’s, Barry’s and Brenna’s - part 1, part 2 and part 3. More reports are appearing about the web, you can find some press reviews right here.

I was actually out of it most of the weekend and missed a lot of great things, including most of what was offer in the exhibit hall. One of the events I deeply regret having missed was the Comics Art Battle at Cosmic Monkey Comics Saturday night.

Team Web!

Above is a great picture of Team Web: Christopher Baldwin, Dylan Meconis, Barry Deutsch and Bill Mudron. Or, as I like to call them, my people. Actually these folks really are my people, I have shared residence (and a bathroom) with all of them at one point or another. Nevermind than Dylan, Barry and I all updates our comics on Wednesday and take part in the same “collective storytelling experience” (aka, a role playing game) Oh, hey, and all four have done Dicebox fill-ins for me. Crazy.
