And about time, too
Movable Type once again functions here at Jennworks.com as well as at Alas,
a Blog and
Long Story; Short Pier.
And, though I certainly don’t blog as much as the boys, I was starting to jones for some journaling myself. Human nature, I suppose, want something you suddenly can’t have. Not that I couldn’t have resorted to manually entering entries, but the database of MT is a nice little work-horse and I’d rather work with in.
I was somewhat amused that this MT Database glitch (Which, if you are really interested, you can read more about here) occurred just when I was going to return to my regular blogging schedule–which is only about 2 or 3 times a week, but I was unable to accomplish even that before the glitch. Just not enough time. (Really, if I could just mentally beam entries into the database as they occurred to me, like while showering or walking to work, I’d be able to update much more often)
Even now, I can’t do entries directly—I am on a press check in California, in the glorious City of Industry (the actual name of the town). I am tapping away on my laptop in the printer’s client room as I wait for them to create a new plate to correct a grievous error on their part so we can finally put this job to rest. That whole plate burning thing wasn’t actually on the schedule–my initial press check actually happened soon after I got off the plane this morning at 8:15am. In fact the print manager and I were wondering what I was going to do with myself until my flight out back to Portland tonight at 8:59pm. I swear, someone put a curse on this job; it’s been in production for the past ten weeks for one reason or another and it was several of those reasons that convinced people to fly out down here. Good thing too. I mean, it was an almost reasonable, logical mistake, and not immediately obvious. Expect, of course, to the woman who has all but made love to the illustrator file for the past month and a half. But it was still a mistake that just wouldn’t fly and keep this damn thing going for another couple of weeks. Oy.
Anyway. I will now give a quick rundown on the major and minor events in my life, a sort of Potpourri alá Dirk Deppey. Moving backwards:
My
interview with Jen Contino about Dicebox and Girlamatic.com
went up at the Pulse yesterday.
Did a personality workshop at work earlier this week based around Jungian types
but not quite Myers Briggs; it’s based
around colors. Apparently, at work at least, I’m a Green with strong
Blue tendencies and the occasional side trips into Yellow.
Joined my co-workers at Maysara
Winery’s grand opening. (Our company designed their logo and labels.)
Also met the vinter for Brooks
Wines and talking wth him made me more interested in trying his wines beyond
the nifty
labels.
Had a pleasant dinner with Steve,
Sara and the soon
to be Seattle bound Victoria.
Learned that the mighty Paul
Winkler will be visiting Portland in July, so I can look forward to visiting
with him and the yet to be met Abby.
Got an email from Kris
Dresen raving about how I render asphalt. Which pleased me no end—seriously!
And this the day after she paid a blush inducing compliment in
her own Pulse interview!
Received a package from Erika Moen (who’s done all sorts of updates to her
website) that contained all sorts of goodies, including a letter and lily
scented soap.
Went on a spontaneous spring cleaning binge on the flat—cleaned windows and everything! (next up, the yard)
Saw the second X-men movie with Mark and Elaine. Which was okay. And I, like everybody I know, really liked the opening sequence and what they did with Nightcrawler, but too many characters and subplots. Just couldn’t care about most of them. But it’s been really funny to overhear so many people talk excitedly about the X-men. It’s like I’m in college again amongst the comic geeks. (Of course the comic geeks I hang with now don’t actually read the X-men)
And that pretty much takes me to my fallen ceiling entry. Beyond all that it’s been work, drawing, the occasional social event and catching up on my email and other obligations.
I still want to blog about Kip and I going to Vancouver Island at the end of April and share some pictures, but they are just about to have the press up and running so it’s time for me to put on my hair net and check it out. (This printer does alot of printing for food packaging)
