&lt;i&gt;FWIW, the objects you identify as forceps also look quite like concave cutters used in bonsai, but also in traditional gardening/tree care.&lt;/i&gt;

Oh, okay, didn&#039;t know about those. That helps make the shovels work as I couldn&#039;t see those being used in surgery, even in the 1800&#039;s.
